The idea of Sonship has been a staple in Christian and Metaphysical thought for quite some time. Most probably don’t understand that there are levels inherent to the idea of Sonship. When we are first born into the reality of Sonship with the Father we are but infants in Christ, but as we learn to trust the Father and grow in knowledge and understanding, we grow from one stage of sonship to the next. Although we are "sons of God" in potential, we are not yet sons of God in actuality. Presented below are the different stages of sonship as presented in the bible and the Urantia Book.

Stage 1: Infant Son
Beginning of spiritual journey as a son of God
Heavily dependent on God for sustenance
Very little knowledge of God
Child-Parent Relationship
Stage 2: Adolescent Son
Knows God enough to trust Him for small things
Learning the basics of who God is
Beginning stages of understanding one’s true nature
Begins practicing basic spiritual rituals
Child - Family relationship
Stage 3: Teenage Son
Knows the Father enough to make mid level decisions in His name
Able to conduct spiritual warfare
Resembles God in part
Takes on the Responsibility of being a son in the Father’s house
Child's relationship to the community

Stage 4: Adult Son
Reflects the nature of the Father
Able to unify seemingly disconnected ideas and concepts, able to identify the single thread of truth in all things.
Becomes a reliable source of light for one’s fellows
Manifest the spirit of Christ with increasing accuracy.
Commands angels and communicates with Celestials
Child's relationship with the World
Stage 5: Mature Son
Concerns oneself with the higher things of God
Has traversed all 7 cosmic circles
Ready for Adjuster Fusion
Enjoys constant and continual communion with God
Able to illuminate entire regions
A mighty headquarters for angelic activity/an open heaven
Teaches younger sons the ways of Sonship
When you’ve seen them, you’ve seen the Father.
Child's relationship with the Universe (all the way up to superuniverse and central universe levels of relationship)
We know that any child can best relate himself to reality by first mastering the relationships of the child-parent situation and then by enlarging this concept to embrace the family as a whole. Subsequently the growing mind of the child will be able to adjust to the concept of family relations, to relationships of the community, the race, and the world, and then to those of the universe, the superuniverse, even the universe of universes.
